MIRCORP PLANS TO BUILD THEIR OWN SPACE STATION

With the destruction of the Mir earlier this year, space financeer MirCorp has decided to build their own space station to fulfill the potential space tourism market. MirCorp has signed an agreement with the Russian Space Agency and Mir-manufacturer Energia to design and develop a station called Mini Station 1. Once constructed, it will fly for 15 years and be able to fit 3 visitors for up to 20 days at a time.

EARTH IS GETTING GREENER

NASA satellite data seems to indicate that the Earth is gradually becoming more green in Northern latitudes - a trend scientists attribute to global warming. This news is good for the growing seasons in Canada and Northern Europe, but generally bad for the warmer parts of the planet. The data was gathered by comparing temperature data from thousands of weather stations with "greenness" satellite photographs. The researchers also noticed a dramatic difference in the turning of seasons; Fall is arriving later, and Spring is coming earlier.

STUDENTS HEAD TO BED TO PROVIDE DATA ON WEIGHTLESSNESS

Fourteen test subjects have agreed to spend the next four months in bed to help scientists understand the effect weightlessness has on the human body. During the study, the subjects will lie on a slight angle, which will mimic the way the body's fluids work in space. They won't be able to get up for any reason, including to eat, wash, or go to the bathroom, and at the end of the study they'll be paid $10,400 USD.
