MARS SOCIETY PLANS ARTIFICIAL gravity EXPERIMENT
One of the challenges of long-term space flight is the effect weightlessness has on the human body, including bone and muscle loss. The Mars Society believes that artificial gravity can prevent this damage, using a rotating spacecraft, similar to a centrifuge. A test flight, scheduled to fly as early as 2003, would carry a crew of mice for two months at.38 gravity (Mars-level gravity), giving them time to reproduce and for the babies to reach maturity. The spacecraft would then return to Earth and scientists would uncover what effect the low gravity had on the mice.

NASA SEES NILE FLOODING FROM SPACE
Thousands of people in the Sudan lost their homes this year when the Nile river reached its highest point in over two decades. NASA's Terra satellite captured several images of the great river at various stages before and after the flooding. The spacecraft acquires images of the Earth at 9-angles simultaneously, using cameras pointed ahead, straight down and backward along its flight path.
SURVIVOR 3 CAMP SPOTTED
A new photo taken by the IKONOS satellite shows a location, confirmed by CBS, of the new tribal camps for Survivor 3 - currently being filmed in Kenya's Shaba National Reserve. The location was provided to Space Imaging by the webmaster of Survivor Maps, and a photo was taken during one of IKONOS' passes overhead at an altitude of 680 kilometres.
