Hubble Spots Warped Galaxy
Discovery Should Launch August 9th
HUBBLE SPOTS WARPED GALAXY
The Hubble Space Telescope has taken a new edge-on picture of an unusually warped galaxy. Unlike most spiral galaxies, which appear flat when seen from the side, this image of Galaxy ESO 510-G13 shows how it's been twisted by a recent collision with another galaxy, which it's currently swallowing. This photograph marks a milestone for Hubble, which has now taken over 100,000 photographs.
DISCOVERY SHOULD LAUNCH AUGUST 9TH
If everything goes according to schedule, the Space Shuttle Discovery is expected to lift off from Cape Canaveral, Florida at 2138 GMT (5:38 pm EDT) on August 9th. Discovery will carry 4 astronauts as well as the 3 members of Expedition 3, who will replace the astronauts on the International Space Station. The shuttle is expected to return to Earth again on August 21.
