First Canadian to Walk in Space
New NASA Budget is Filled with Compromises
FIRST CANADIAN TO WALK IN SPACE
Astronaut Chris Hadfield will add a milestone to space history later this month when he becomes the first Canadian ever to walk in space. Hadfield and his 6 crewmates are scheduled to launch on board the Space Shuttle Endeavour April 19th. Once in orbit, Chris will help install the Canadian-built Canadarm2 over the course of three spacewalks. Endeavour will also deliver the second Italian cargo module, named Raffaello, which includes additional research material.

NEW NASA BUDGET IS FILLED WITH COMPROMISES
NASA officials met with reporters yesterday to discuss the new budget for 2002. And although it's actually an increase on previous years, $14.5 billion, this budget required NASA to make some very difficult decisions. Many projects have been cancelled, including the X-33,X-34 and the Pluto-Kuiper Express, while others, including the Earth Observing System (EOS) will receive additional funds. NASA has also set aside funds to develop new methods of propulsion to distant planets.
