ATLANTIS DOCKS WITH SPACE STATION
The Space Shuttle Atlantis has docked safely with space station Alpha bringing the $1.4 billion Destiny laboratory module closer to its installation. The docking occurred at 1615 GMT (11:15am EST), but it will still be two more days before Astronaut Marsha Irvins will operate the shuttle arm to remove Destiny from the shuttle's cargo bay and attach it to the station. Two other astronauts will preform a series of spacewalks to attach all the cables to the module.

X-33 ENGINE PASSES IMPORTANT TEST
The twin engines that will be used for NASA's X-33 spaceplane passed an important test on Tuesday - they were fired in tandem for 1.1 seconds with no problems. NASA plans more short tests of the XRS-2200 Linear Aerospike engines, until the engines are used to power a half-scale sub-orbiter version as a demonstration of the technology. The X-33 is a prototype of the reusable vehicle NASA has chosen to replace the space shuttle.
OLD BROWN DWARF-LIKE stars DISCOVERED
Astronomers in Hawaii using the UK Infrared telescope (UKIRT) have discovered two examples of a new kind of star. Although they appear to have the same characteristics as smaller brown dwarf stars, the Astronomers believe they're actually the remnants of ordinary stars that have been whittled down to cool Jupiter-sized bodies by spilling material over to a White Dwarf companion course.
