ASTRONOMERS ESTIMATE THERE ARE 900 Earth CROSSING ASTEROIDS
A new report being prepared for Science Magazine estimates that there are 900 asteroids at least a kilometer in size buzzing around near the Earth - and we've only found 40% of them. The lead researcher, William Bottke from Cornell University, has developed a method to statistically project the number of near-Earth asteroids based on data from Spacewatch, an asteroid tracking program.
