PLUMP Galaxies EARN BIG BLACK HOLES

New evidence collected by the Hubble Space Telescope indicates that Galaxies with a big bulge of stars at their core are more likely to give birth to massive black holes. Flatter galaxies, like our own Milky Way, create much smaller black holes (only a few million solar masses). The recent discovery of 10 black holes at the core of distant Galaxies raises the total known to 30.

BLACK HOLES MAY BLOW BUBBLES

Astronomers have discovered a black hole that seems to be blowing bubbles. The black hole is located in Galaxy NGC 4438, and the Hubble Space Telescope recently observed giant glowing bubbles of hot gas eminating from the giant singularity. The bubble is short-lived in galactic terms; it's only 800 light years across, and will eventually dissipate.

RESEARCHER ANNOUNCES HE'S BROKEN THE SPEED OF LIGHT

Dr. Lijun Wang, working from the NEC research institute in Princeton claims he accelerated pulses of light up to 300 times faster than their normal velocity of 300,000 km/s. The details of the experiment are unclear, because it has been submitted to nature for publication. If true, this discovery could shatter many basic theories of physics; of course, cold fusion threatened to do the same. The methodology will undergo considerable scrutiny from the scientific community before gaining acceptance.
