Galileo Captures Io's Volcanoes
The Story of the Yukon Meteorite
COMPTON RE-ENTRY PLAN MODIFIED
NASA controllers have changed the re-entry time for the Compton Observatory so that it will re-enter the atmosphere 90 minutes earlier than previously planned on Sunday, and drop into a different location in the Pacific Ocean. The de-orbit burn will occur at 1:30am EDT (0530 GMT) and Compton will hit the water at approximately 2:20 EDT (0620 GMT).
GALILEO CAPTURES IO'S VOLCANOES
New photos of Io taken by the Galileo spacecraft have shown Jupiter's closest Moon to contain even more volanoes than previously thought - hundreds more. And many of the volcanoes that Galileo observed on earlier flybys have changed, some dramatically.
THE STORY OF THE YUKON METEORITE
Back in January, a 180 tonne meteorite struck the atmosphere above Canada's Yukon territory, and crashed into a nearby frozen lake. Eight days after it struck, the debris was discovered by a Canadian outdoor guide, who helped begin a recovery effort to retrieve as much as possible before the lake melted. The meteorite find has been hailed as one of the most important discoveries in the history of the field.
