NASA Prepares Compton For Fiery Return

SPACE SHUTTLE LANDS SAFELY

The crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantis safely piloted their ship to a perfect landing at Cape Canaveral early Monday morning. Throughout Sunday, NASA was concerned that high winds at the Cape would delay the landing, but they eased up enough that mission control gave the go-ahead. The shuttle landed at 2:20am EDT (0720 GMT).

EUROPE MAINTAINS LAUNCH CONTRACT WITH JAPAN

Officials from the European Space Agency (ESA) affirmed that they will still intend to launch an upcoming satellite on board at Japanese H2 rocket - even after a string of launch failures. Hughes Space and Communications recently announced that they pulled contracts to launch 10 satellites after poor performance by the Japanese Space Agency.

NASA PREPARES COMPTON FOR FIERY RETURN

NASA engineers are now in the final stages of preparation to de-orbit the Compton Gamma Ray Observatory, ending 9 years of ground-breaking research. A rocket firing to begin the de-orbit will happen Tuesday evening, and shortly after, it will dump into the Pacific Ocean, between Hawaii and Mexico.
