A FULLY OPERATIONAL SPACE STATION
The crew of the Space Shuttle Atlantis have completed their repairs to the International Space Station, ahead of schedule. The station now has 6 working batteries, an additional ton of supplies, and is now orbiting at a healthy altitude. Atlantis is scheduled to return to Earth on Monday, and will probably return to the station in September to deliver the first permanent crew.
CHANDRA VIEWS WINDS EXITING BLACK HOLE
NASA's Chandra X-Ray Observatory was recently pointed at NGC 3783, a Galaxy thought to contain a massive black hole. Analysis of the region showed the effects the singularity has on its environment: as matter enters the hole, tremendous amounts of radiation is produced, causing a "wind" to stream away at 1.6 million kilometers per hour.
MARTIAN meteorite DISCOVERED IN OMAN
A meteorite hunter searching the deserts of the Middle East has discovered what is believed to be a little chunk of Mars. The meteorite was likely blown off the Red planet thousands of years ago by an asteroid or Comet impact, and the tiny rock drifted in space before entering Earth's atmosphere. Martian meteorites are very rare - only 15 have been found so far.
RUSSIAN MODULE IS READY TO GO
Russian space officials have announced that the Zvezda living quarters module for the International Space Station is ready, and will launch on schedule on July 8th. In fact, "irreversible" actions for the launch will begin soon, including fueling the Proton booster which will take the module into orbit. Development of the station has halted waiting for the module to be ready, and Russia is under tremendous pressure from NASA to get it into space.
