ASTRONAUTS ENTER SPACE STATION
For the first time in this mission the Atlantis astronauts entered the International Space Station to replace two batteries. During their time in the station, the astronauts didn't complain of the same symptoms that affected earlier crews - nausea, itchy eyes and headaches. Before the crew undocks on Friday, they will drive the station into a higher orbit, and complete the loading of supplies.
NASA RELEASES 20,000 PHOTOS OF MARS
A new NASA website has been set up with over 20,000 photos taken by the Mars Global Surveyor over the course of one Martian year (687 days). The photos are freely available to download over the Internet, and the general public is encouraged to examine the original data and make discoveries for themselves.
MIRCORP ANNOUNCES NEXT MANNED MISSION TO THE STATION
Holland-based MirCorp, the independent company hired to facilitate commercial activity on Mir, announced that there are already two more missions planned for the aging space station: one this fall, and another for first quarter 2001. The Russian government has also confirmed it will provide funding for Mir in 2001.
GALILEO SWEEPS PAST GANYMEDE
The Galileo spacecraft passed over the surface of Ganymede on Saturday and recorded a fresh set of photographs of Jupiter's largest Moon - taken from only 800 km above the surface. During the mission, Galileo received a fresh batch of intense radiation from Jupiter. As the spacecraft reaches the end of its life, NASA plans to subject it to riskier and riskier missions in the pursuit of science.
