Atlas Launch Pushed Back to Tuesday

Mir Will Be Empty by June

ATLANTIS REACHES SPACE STATION

Astronauts on board the Space Shuttle Atlantis had a busy weekend.

After catching up with the International Space Station early Saturday

morning, Astronauts James Voss and Jeffrey Williams spent most of Sunday

spacewalking. They installed a new Russian crane, a new antenna, and

several handrails. Over the course of the mission, they will transfer a

total of 450 kg to the station.

ATLAS LAUNCH PUSHED BACK TO TUESDAY

Technicians aborted Saturday's launch attempt of the new Atlas III

US/Russian rocket when the launch window was used up clearing 70

boats from the danger area. The technicians also discovered a faulty

valve gasket on the pad, and aborted the launch. The next window opens

up Tuesday morning at 5:38 EDT (2138 GMT).

MIR WILL BE EMPTY BY JUNE

Russian space officials announced their plans to evacuate Mir in June

due to lack of funding; although, it will keep will keep the station in

orbit in case there is money for future missions. The officials announced

they might have to make the station re-enter orbit if no money can

be found by August.
