Hubble Reveals Missing Hydrogen
New Mars Plan By Year's End
Alignment Friday Doesn't Spell Doomsday
HUBBLE REVEALS MISSING HYDROGEN
Scientists have been searching for years for huge amounts of Hydrogen
they think were produced in the Big Bang, but were somehow lost in
the vastness of space. The Hubble Space Telescope may have finally
identified it - strangely, by finding oxygen. Hubble used the light of a
distant quasar to probe the space between the Earth and the object,
revealing the spectral "fingerprints" of highly ionised oxygen
superimposed on the quasar's light. Oxygen is a tracer for the hydrogen.
NEW MARS PLAN BY YEAR'S END
NASA officials announced that they expect a "new architecture" for
Mars exploration by the end of this year. This announcement came
Wednesday, exactly five months since the demoralizing loss of Mars
ALIGNMENT FRIDAY DOESN'T SPELL DOOMSDAY
The Earth, Moon, and Sun will align with the five bright planets
(Mercury, Venus, Mars, Jupiter, and Saturn) on Friday morning. But
this auspicious alignment will have no effect on the Earth: these types
of conjunctions are not especially rare, and the world has not ended
yet. Sadly, the conjunction will not be visible from the Earth: the Sun's
glare will get in the way.
