Atlantis to Make Third Attempt Today

Gale force gusts kept Atlantis grounded again yesterday. After two

attempts, NASA traditionally limits consecutive launch attempts to two

in order to give the crew and launch team a chance to rest, but with

the International Space Station's orbit decaying by nearly 2 miles a

week, they will make another attempt to launch the mission today.

Superlaser Test Advances Space Weapons Research

TRW has made another step the advancement of high-output lasers

with a test of the Alpha High-Energy Laser that shows an increase in

the laser's output by 25%, and an improvement in quality as well. The

Alpha laser is refining technology to design and deploy a Space-Based

Laser Integrated Flight Experiment (SBL IFX), and anti-missile system

being developed by the Air Force.
