ATLANTIS TO LAUNCH TODAY

The countdown for the launch of today's shuttle to the International Space Station began Friday. The launch was jeopardized by damage, defects, and a sprained ankle by commander James Halsell Jr. The mission will deliver batteries and replacement parts for the space station, which is losing 1 to 2 miles a week in altitude due to increased solar activity.

Instread, the Air Force should be remodeled as a military force equipped to integrate both air and space vehicles to meet the nation's defense needs.
