LAUNCH PAD REPAIR OF ATLANTIS A GO

A tricky repair of a faulty rudder hydraulic in the tail of Space Shuttle

Atlantis was approved yesterday. The repair had never been performed

on the launch pad before in the history of the shuttle program, but

engineers hope to keep Atlantis on schedule for an April 24th mission

to the International Space Station.

MISSILE PLAN REJECTED BY PROMINENT PANEL

11 scientists, some of whom have worked on government missile

programs, criticized a proposed national anti-missile shield in which a

land-based missile would intercept an incoming missile. The panel claims

that any country capable of deploying an intercontinental missile could

easily deploy countermeasures that would defeat the defensive system.

TV STUDIO IN SPACE

Spacehab, which develops commercial aerospace services like habitation

modules for spacecraft, has launched a subsidiary called Space Media to

broadcast news, entertainment, or advertising from space. The company

hopes to complete a media module for the International Space Station

by the end of 2002 - a multimedia broadcast facility called Enterprise.
