NEW EVIDENCE REVEALS ANCIENT water CHANNELS ON MARS

Instruments aboard NASA's Mars Global Surveyor spacecraft, currently

orbiting the planet, reveal canyons on Mars where rivers may have

once flowed into a large ocean. Analyzing planetary gravity in

combination with high-resolution topographic maps has revealed the

canyons that were previously concealed by millions of years worth

of sediment.

GALILEO & CASSINI TO JOIN FORCES ON CONTINUED Jupiter STUDY

NASA plans to extend Galileo's mission to study Jupiter and its moons

until the end of the year allowing it to conduct joint studies with

the Cassini probe when it passes by Jupiter on its way to Saturn in

December. The two craft will make synchronous observations of Jupiter's

magnetic field from different locations - Galileo from inside the

planet's magnetic envelope, and Cassini from outside.

NASA CUTBACKS JEOPARDIZE SAFETY

A panel of aerospace experts claims that NASA's shrinking budgets

and reduced staffing threaten safety as the agency turns over too

much work to outside contractors in an attempt to save money. NASA

is already in the process of putting several of the 80-plus

recommendations into effect, and is planning to increase personnel

by 800 over the next two years.
