UNIV. OF ARIZONA TO FUND CAMERA FOR SPACEDEV

SpaceDev Inc., the world's first commercial Space exploration company

announced a joint venture with the University, providing SpaceDev

with a deep space camera for use on its planned commercial space

missions. The partnership is intended to introduce commercial

funding to scientific space exploration, which up to this point has

not taken place.

NEW PLASTIC COATING TO PROTECT satellites DEVELOPED

Chemists at the Univ. of Toronto have developed a new plastic to

protect vulnerable electronic equipment aboard satellites from

electromagnetic surges, usually related to solar flares. The new

material would disperse the energy in all directions, acting like

an electrical raincoat for the delicate instruments.

RESEARCHERS MAPPING INVISIBLE DARK MATTER

Using the Canada-France-Hawaii telescope and intense computing, an

international research team seeks to chart the distribution of dark

matter through the analysis of its gravitational effect on light rays

from distant galaxies. The maps compiled so far show a web-like

dispersal of Dark matter across a section of sky approximately 10

times the size of a full moon.
