ENDEAVOUR MISSION WRAPPING UP

Astronauts on board the Space Shuttle Endeavour completed their

final full day of radar mapping on Sunday, but thanks to fuel

savings, they will be able to keep the boom extended until Monday

morning to get as much data as possible. Once the crew returns on

Tuesday, the 326 digital cassettes filled with data will take

18-24 months to analyze with public release of the maps in 2003.

EARTH HAS ONLY 500 MILLION YEARS LEFT

A new computer model produced by James F. Kasting, a professor of

geosciences at Pennsylvania State University predicts that the

Sun's gradually increasing temperature will evaporate the Earth's

oceans, and make the planet uninhabitable within 500 million years.

If their calculations are correct, Earth is already 90% of the way

through its habitable timeframe.

QUASAR EARNS RECORD FOR MOST DISTANT OBJECT

A team of Astronomers using the 5.1 meter telescope at Mt. Palomar

have observed what they believe is the most distant object ever

discovered. It's a quasar, named RD J030117+002025, and it's over

13 billion light-years away, which means it was around when the

universe was less than 8% of its current age.
