WITH FUEL CONSERVATION, ENDEAVOUR SHOULD GO THE DISTANCE

Using every method of fuel conservation they can think of, NASA

engineers believe they'll save enough to keep Endeavour mapping

until the mission is complete - they should have a more precise

answer later today. Endeavour has been using its own fuel to

stabilize the radar mapping system because a small thruster at the

end of the boom is malfunctioning.

RECENT RADIO SIGNALS DIDN'T COME FROM MARS

NASA engineers announced yesterday that the recent signals they

received were likely of terrestrial origin, and didn't come from

Mars - ending all hope of recovery for the Mars Polar Lander. It's

likely the signals received came from an overhead satellite, or a

glitch in the Stanford antenna.

RUSSIAN ACTOR MAY TRAVEL TO MIR

In an upcoming movie tentatively called The Last Journey, Russian

actor Vladimir Steklov could be sent up to Mir to film some of his

scenes. The production company has already provided Energia - the

company that owns Mir - with an initial payment, with two more

after filming has begun and ended.

NASA ADMINISTRATOR GETS AN EARFUL FROM CONGRESS

NASA Administrator Daniel Goldin was in the firing line Wednesday,

as members of congress hammered the space agency for not getting

the International Space Station into orbit. Although NASA is

waiting for Russia to complete a component, they have an

American-made replacement still "sitting on the ground". If the

Russians don't launch by July, the replacement module will be

launched by December.

ARIANE LAUNCH DELAYED BY WEATHER

An Ariane 44LP booster rocket loaded with a Superbird-4

communications satellite remained on the Kourou, French Guiana

launch pad yesterday. It was supposed to launch at 0104 UST, but

the threat of lightning scrubbed the launch. They'll try again

today.
