DID THAT SIGNAL COME FROM THE POLAR LANDER?
NASA received a mysterious signal, apparently from the direction
of Mars, that has they wondering if it came from the Mars Polar
Lander, which disappeared early December. NASA has sent a set of
instructions towards the suspected location of the Polar Lander
requesting that it respond if it's okay. The agency isn't that
hopeful, however, and considers this a long shot.
CHINESE ROCKET LAUNCHES COMMUNICATIONS SATELLITE
Chinese space officials announced that a Long March 3A lifted off
from the Xichang launch site in southwestern China carrying a
domestically built Zhongxing-22 communications satellite. The
launch wasn't previously announced, and came as a surprise to the
NASA INVESTIGATES YUKON METEOR BLAST
After a spectacular meteor exploded last week over Canada's Yukon
Territory, NASA sent a plane up to investigate. They flew the
aircraft at an altitude of nearly 20,000 metres, in the area of
the explosion, and collected meteor dust using special paddles
attached to one wing. They also examined the surrounding forests
for any evidence of an impact crater.
