SPACE STATION SEES ANOTHER DELAY

Russian officials announced that they would delay the launch of the

Zvezda living quarters module for the International Space Station

after they discovered flaws in the booster rocket which will be used

to put the module in orbit. This pushes that launch back until at

least August. The Proton booster rocket has been responsible for two

crashes in the last year.

GALILEO PROVIDES MORE EVIDENCE OF EUROPAN OCEAN

In a recent flyby of Jupiter's Moon Europa, the Galileo spacecraft

passed only 350 kilometers above the surface. NASA scientists were

hoping to use this flight to help determine if Europa is covered by

a liquid ocean. During the flyby, Galileo used its magnetometer to

study the planet's magnetic field, and the resulting readings were

consistent with an electrically-conducting material, such as a

salty ocean.

ANTARCTIC SOLAR telescope LAUNCHED

Scientists in Antarctica launched an enormous balloon carrying a

solar telescope designed to perform a detailed study of solar flares.

The size of a minivan, the telescope has 50 times the resolution of

ground-based solar telescopes, and should stay aloft for 15

to 20 days.
