NEW planet DISCOVERED ORBITING TWO STARS
Another first in the race to discover extrasolar planets - a
Jupiter-sized planet orbiting two stars. The discovery was made
by using a "micro-lensing" technique by a combined team from USA,
Australia and Israel using the Mount Stromlo telescope in Australia.
NEW HYBRID ROCKET MOTOR TESTED
NASA recently test-fired a new hybrid rocket engine which is far
safer than conventional liquid and solid launch vehicles. The new
rocket will be capable of launching 80,000 pounds into space - mainly
small research payloads. NASA expects to use the rocket for with
actual payloads within 3 years.
MARTIAN meteorite COULD HAVE BEEN CONTAMINATED
In a paper published in a recent journal, scientists have concluded
that the discovery of amino acids in Martian meteorite Nakhla are
biological, but come from Earth not Mars. Although there could have
been Martian amino acids at one point, they would have been completely
contaminated by terrestrial organisms.
