What is truth?
part of the surrounding scenery began to lift. A monstrous shape of black lifted effortlessly into a star studded sky and gently tilted, then glided over the open land. Two huge flashes of electric blue briefly lit the sky and she was gone. Nothing remained except a man, alone with his thoughts, and a hunched shadow in the distance skulking away with a story no one would ever believe.
In some small way, I pitied him. No doubt he would tell his family, the chaps down the pub and his friends at work, and all would believe him a candidate for treatment. And maybe they'll think the same of me. But, with science, I can prove what I say, and that, in a sceptical world is some small semblance of comfort.
Although I say I don't particularly care what others say, I still have feelings, emotions and a sense of embarrassment. I hope you keep that in mind. But all in all, this has been an experience, whatever anyone thinks. And that is where we really should draw a line beneath it, and hand the theoretical data over to science and let them evaluate its results.
That night, I walked back to my car, around past the lake, the wildlife screaming, and remembered thinking of why they had turned up. I was still uncomfortable with his reason, but liked his manner. As I sat in my car, I thought of one other significant possibility for their arrival. I know this may sound a touch paranoid, but I can't help myself. I believe, if science hides the evidence these theories produce, and I die as blissfully ignorant as the rest of the world, then maybe their journey was a conscience thing.
Maybe they were ensuring my work, and, I hope others will not be in vain. Just maybe they thought it the decent thing to do. But whatever, I wish them, as I wish you, the very best of luck for the future and hope all your dreams will be recognised.
But How True Is All Of This?
What is truth, except a myopic interpretation of any individual's belief. It's become indicative of society to believe only that which they currently comprehend. We started with a quote from George Bernard Shaw, which said: "We appear to have lost the power of wisdom, through knowledge".
..Maybe we should understand what he understood, and that is truth, and what is possible doesn't exist in some rigid text book, or academic work: It languishes in the individual's mind. We might even be so bold, as to say, mankind and his ability is only limited by his own power to think.
Those that believe in nothing, will undoubtedly achieve, nothing. Those that believe in the possibility of anything, can no doubt achieve, anything. We have been stunted by academics, their narrow minded beliefs and their defeatist attitude for far too long.
It's time we took other, more strange topics much more seriously, and see, just how far back we can push the boundaries of reason. I just asked, what is truth?, and the only answer I can possibly give, is, truth is anything you want it to be, providing you believe passionately enough in it. If you can imagine, see it, then I'll guarantee, one day someone will reach out and embrace it, for mankind has a propensity in him to attain even his wildest dreams, the most extreme desire or the most distant goal.
Below is a list of chapters for the Metaphysics Anthology. The book itself is designed as abit of fun! One man thinking out loud. You should not see it as science, merely enjoy the imagination of the human mind in full swing.
